“One of the unsung stories of this province’s business sector is our capacity to succeed in global markets. Because we have such a small population, businesses tend to saturate the market here very quickly so they have to start looking outside the borders of the province to find growth opportunities. 

A good case in point is a news release yesterday from a small Saskatoon firm that signed a contract to provide Internet services to a major conglomerate in the Untied Arab Emirates. This is not exactly your traditional Saskatchewan business story. But for Amanah Tech in Saskatoon, this is a very usual story. Working with the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership, or STEP, which is one of the most successful trade development outfits anywhere in the world, Amanah Tech put together a deal to supply web services to 40 companies that belong to the Al Ghurair Group of Dubai.

Historically, firms in this Arab country have looked to the United States for things like web services, but now they have found a Canadian company that can do it cheaper. And because it’s a web-based business, they can provide that service from anywhere in the world, including from Saskatchewan.
