What is Remote Hands

What remote hands covers

Remote hands is Amanah staff performing physical work on your equipment inside 151 Front Street West, billed by the hour from $100/hr, so you do not have to travel downtown to reseat a drive or power-cycle a switch.

Amanah does not send a technician to the building. Amanah staff are already in it, in TOR1, Suite 341 on the 3rd floor, and TOR2, Suite 616 on the 6th floor, which is why a request carries no travel time and no callout charge. You raise a ticket, the team confirms what it is about to touch, does the work, and sends back written confirmation of what was done.

It is available to Amanah colocation services and dedicated server clients for equipment inside Amanah space.

All work is confirmed with you before and after. The team does not proceed beyond the agreed scope without your authorisation.

When to use remote hands

When the work needs someone at the rack and nobody on your team can be there: a device that will not come back after a reboot, a failed drive, a cable that has to move ports, a crash cart on a machine that has stopped answering.

How a request is confirmed

The team reads your ticket back to you and confirms scope and timing before touching anything. Nothing outside that scope happens without you agreeing first, and every request is answered in writing when it closes.

What counts as smart hands instead

Remote hands is physical work that needs no knowledge of your configuration. Smart hands is work that needs someone to read your setup and make a judgement. Both are billed at the same hourly rate.

What we handle

The full range of on-site tasks.

The service covers everything from a power cycle to racking new hardware, running and reseating cables, verifying connectivity, receiving inbound shipments, and escorting your own vendors through the suite. Remote hands is available on shared rack colocation and private rack colocation alike, and on a cross-connect you already have with us. All tasks are performed under your instructions. The team confirms before and after each item and does not proceed beyond the agreed scope.

Included in a standard request, at no extra charge: a photograph of the result where a photograph shows anything useful, a written note on the ticket saying what was actually done, and a second attempt if the first one does not resolve it. If the team finds something you did not ask about, such as a failed fan or a cable under strain, it is flagged to you rather than fixed silently.

Two things follow from the team being resident rather than dispatched. The first is that there is no callout charge and no travel time to bill, because nobody travels. The second is that the person at your rack has worked in these two suites before and knows where your cabinet is, which is why a request that reads “reseat the second port on the top switch” does not need a diagram.

Every request is scoped before it starts and closed with a written result. If a task turns out to be larger than the ticket described, the team stops and comes back to you rather than continuing and billing the difference. That is the whole discipline of the service: you keep the decisions, Amanah supplies the hands.

Task
What the technician does
Reboot or power cycle

Power down and back up at the PDU or the device, then confirm the host answers again before closing the ticket.

Drive swap, client-supplied media

Pull the failed drive, seat the replacement you shipped in, confirm the controller sees it, return or hold the old drive as you instruct.

Cable move or reseat

Move a patch lead to a different port, reseat a suspect run, label it, and photograph the result.

KVM or crash-cart attach

Wheel a crash cart to the machine and give you the console output, or attach a KVM so you can drive it yourself.

Media swap

Insert, remove or exchange optical, USB or tape media and confirm the host has mounted it.

Visual inspection and photograph

Walk the rack, photograph front and rear, and report link lights, fan state, cable strain and anything sitting out of place.

Tape or backup media handling

Rotate, label and store backup media, or hand it to a courier you have named in advance.

Equipment receiving

Take delivery at 151 Front Street West, check the shipment against your packing list, and stage it in your space.

Rack and stack

Mount new equipment, cable power and network, label both ends, and confirm the device powers on and links up.

Vendor escort

Meet your named vendor at reception, escort them to your space, stay with them, and sign them out.

Remote hands or smart hands

Remote hands

Physical tasks that need no knowledge of how your system is configured: power cycling, reseating a cable, swapping a drive you supply, attaching a crash cart, reading a front-panel code back to you.

Scoped from your ticket, done as written, confirmed in writing. Billed hourly from $100/hr, with no monthly minimum.

Smart hands

Work that requires reading your setup and making a judgement: working out which port is faulty, interacting with an operating system, changing a device configuration under your direction.

Billed at the same hourly rate, but quoted per request, because the time it takes depends on what is found.

If you are not sure which one your task is, describe it in the ticket. The team will tell you which it is, and what it will cost, before starting.

How to request

How to raise a request

Open a ticket in the Amanah client portal or email the team directly. Describe the task, include your rack or server reference, and attach any instructions or credentials the work needs. The team confirms scope before starting.

Who may raise a request. Only the contacts named on your account. A request from an address that is not on the account is held until a named contact confirms it, and the person holding the ticket is told that is why it is waiting. Physical access to your equipment is not granted on the strength of an email address, and that check is not waived for urgency. If the list of authorised contacts needs to change, that change comes from an existing named contact.

1

3

Task completed

The team carries out the task exactly as instructed. Photos or confirmation notes are provided where relevant.

4

You are notified

Completion is confirmed to you via the portal or email. Any observations or issues discovered during the task are flagged immediately.

Emergency tasks

For urgent or emergency tasks, call the Amanah team directly on +1 (416) 603-9825 x 1, Monday to Saturday, 8AM to 2PM EST. Outside those hours, raise the request in the client portal and mark the ticket urgent. Remote hands is not a staffed 24-hour desk, and this page will not pretend otherwise: what is published above are the hours a person answers the phone.

What remote hands does not cover

Remote hands is deliberately narrow, and it is worth saying where it stops.

Diagnosis

The team will tell you what it sees. Working out why a device is failing is smart hands, quoted per request.

Anything inside your operating system

unless you have asked for it as smart hands and supplied the credentials and the steps.

Parts

Amanah does not stock spares for your hardware. Ship the part in, or have your vendor ship it, and the team will fit it.

Work on equipment outside Amanah space

Remote hands applies to your equipment inside Amanah suites at 151 Front Street West. It is not sold as a standalone service for hardware held elsewhere in the building.

Open-ended troubleshooting

Every request has a defined scope agreed before work starts. If the scope needs to grow, the team comes back to you rather than billing on.

Decisions

If a task turns out to have two possible next steps, the team stops and asks. It does not choose for you.

Publishing the exclusions is what makes the inclusions believable.

FAQ

Questions about remote hands

Response targets are set in your service agreement and depend on how you have marked the severity. Requests are raised through the client portal or by email and are actioned by staff already working at 151 Front Street West, so there is no travel time to add. Amanah does not publish a single response figure on this page, because the one that applies to you is the one in your agreement.

Remote hands is billed hourly, from $100 per hour in Canadian dollars, with no monthly minimum. You are billed for time worked, and the ticket records what was done, so the invoice line can always be traced back to a request you raised. The billing increment is in your service agreement.

Remote hands covers physical tasks that need no knowledge of your configuration: power cycling, reseating a cable, swapping a drive you supply, attaching a crash cart. Smart hands covers work that requires reading your setup and making a judgement, such as diagnosing which port is faulty or interacting with an operating system. Amanah quotes smart hands separately because the time depends on what is found.

Yes. Equipment can be received at 151 Front Street West, checked against your packing list, and racked into your space as a remote hands request. Tell the team the courier and the tracking number in advance so the shipment is expected, and say whether you want the packaging kept or disposed of.

Only the contacts named on your account. A request from anyone else is held until an authorised contact confirms it. This is deliberate: physical access to your equipment is not granted on the strength of an email address, and the check is not waived because a request is urgent.

Remote hands applies to equipment inside Amanah’s suites at 151 Front Street West, so it is available to colocation and dedicated server clients. It is not sold as a standalone service for equipment held elsewhere in the building.
